SECUNDA – A man was arrested in the parking area at the Secunda Village Shopping Centre in Nelson Mandela Drive on Thursday, 18 February.

Eyewitnesses said the car owner saw the man was busy at his car when he left Spar at about 7am.

“I saw people rushing to the car and it looked as though they gave him a good beating before the police arrived,” said an eyewitness.

Lt Bettina Zondo from Secunda Police Station confirmed that a 41-year-old man was arrested for attempted car theft.

She said the suspect was found with a remote control and a sharp object used to start a car.

Lt Zondo said motorists must beware of car remote jamming and should check and make sure that their car doors are locked before they leave their vehicles.

  • The police were spotted at the Centre at about 11.30pm and it is alleged that they returned to the shopping centre after they were informed that a group of young men were walking around with guns, but on their arrival they could not find them.People said the group was walking up and down and had guns and disappeared when the police arrived.

The sharp object and a remote control were found in the possession of the suspect.
