11 accidents reported in December

The Standerton Police and the Department of Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management attribute the 11 accidents that occurred during the festive season to different factors, including fatigue.

“The government has been upgrading national roads so the roads are not the problem, but the road users,” Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer at the Standerton Police, said.

According to him, some road users still do not obey the rules of the road.

“Some motorists get behind the wheel drunk, others do not rest when driving long distances and as a result they fall asleep while driving and cause accidents.”

Capt Nhlabathi also said drivers overtake when they are not supposed to.
