Municipality to buy uniforms despite financial crises

Opposition parties blame Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman (Executive Mayor) and her comrades for proposing to buy uniforms for law enforcers, despite the municipality's financial crisis.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality took a resolution to buy uniforms for the law enforcement unit on Thursday 16 November.

The opposition parties were against the motion because of the current financial constraints, however the ANC was adamant that the uniforms should be bought to give dignity to the law enforcers.

Ms Ethel Nkosi, MMC for Community Services, was adamant that they will pass the resolution to buy uniforms, whether the opposition councillors like it or not.

“We will take this resolution, whether they like or not.

“They can go to the newspapers.

“Uniforms for workers is not optional, but a must as it is a compliance matter.”

Mr Hlolweni told the newspaper that his party is disappointed with the resolution.

He said it shows that the ANC councillors do not have their priorities right.

“It is a disgrace to prioritise uniforms above all the other challenges the municipality is facing.

“Uniforms will not assist someone to perform better if he does not have enough equipment to help him do his job.

“We believe there is someone who is pressuring the political office bearers to create a tender opportunity so that a certain entrepreneur can benefit.
