Municipality has not picked up refuse for 4 weeks at some houses

Refuse at a complext in Extention 22 in Secunda has not been removed for weeks.

Residents are fed up because their refuse has not been removed.

At some houses it was removed four weeks ago.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA councillor, kept residents updated via social media and the comments streamed in from angry residents.

Only one truck serviced the whole of Secunda on 19 January and on 22 January two trucks were available to remove the refuse.

According to Ms Chamberlain, the other trucks need new tyres before they can be operational.

There is currently a huge backlog on the refuse removal schedule and some residents made their own plans to have their refuse removed.

Residents asked on social media why they must pay for a service that they are not receiving.

The newspaper asked the acting municipal manager, Mr Thisha Mhlanga, for comment, but he did not respond at time of going to press.
