Tanya Toerien spends three years to grow her hair to donate it to Cansa Comos

People wonder what they can do with a 38cm ponytail. The answer is to make a wig for a cancer patient.

That is what the Cansa Cosmos branch is going to do with Ms Tanya Toerien’s donation.

Ms Toerien decided three years ago to grow her hair long enough to donate it to Cansa to have it turned into a wig for a woman undergoing chemotherapy.

Ms Tanya Toerien’s ponytail is cut during Cansa Cosmos’ Shavathon at Sasol.

She sat down for the personnel of Cansa Cosmos who cut her ponytail during a Shavathon inside Sasol on Friday, 2 March.

“My sister, Angelique, have done the same several times and I thought it was a great idea. My hair is now shorter than shoulder length, but it can grow back. I am honoured to help cancer patients in this manner,” said Ms Toerien.

Ms Giséle Bosman from Cansa said it was a brave gesture and an inspiration to all.

“We salute Tanya for her willpower and discipline to help others.”

According to Ms Bosman, the Shavathon held at Sasol’s fire station was funfilled and well supported.
