26th Kosmos 3-in-1 hooks record number of entries

SECUNDA – Paul Gerrard and Melinda Jansen van Vuuren are this year’s winners of the PwC Kosmos 3-in-1 race that took place on Saturday, 10 March.

Gerrard, who hails from the Randburg Harriers, won with an overall time of 4:42,32.

This overall time is all the times combined in which he finished the 42,2km race, the 21,1km race and the 10km race.

Gerrard won the 42,2km race in a time of 2:31,12. He also completed the 21km in a time of 1:25,04 and the 10km in 46,15.

Koketjo Gumbo came second overall in a time of 4:47,23. He was also the second runner to cross the finish line in the 42km race. His times for the other races were 1:31,02 and 38,08 respectively.

Jabulane Maabane was third overall and also third in the 42km race. His overall time was 4:52,06.

Jabulani Khoza is the winner of the 21,1km race in a time of 1:13,07 and Katleho Maloi won the 10km race in 32,29.

Jansen van Vuuren was the overall women’s winner in a time of 5:48,11. She won the 42km race in the morning in a time of 3:11,14. Her time in the 21km race was 1:44,24 and the 10km race was 52,32.

Busisiwe Vilakazi was second overall among the women in a time of 6:11,52.

Wendy Msezane was the women’s winner of the 21km race. She ran the distance in a time of 1:34,38. Glenrose Xaba won the 10km race in a time of 37,15.

Laerskool Secunda was the overall best water point for the third consecutive year.

Messrs Hein van Heerden, chairman of the race committee, and Arthur Nkosi from PwC, said it was the biggest race ever with more than 2 000 entries for the overall 3-in-1 race, not to mention the thousands of last minute entries for the 21km and 10km races.

They thanked everyone involved in the event and the community for their contributions.

“Next year will be even bigger and better,” said Mr Nkosi.

The race was organised by the Secunda Marathon Club with the start and end at Lake Umuzi.
