The politically charged lyrics in his fourth album DAMN earned him a Grammy for Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards. Humble, the first single released off the album, became Lamar’s first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist. In July 2017, DAMN was certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
DAMN is categorised as conscious rap and the album received critical acclaim for its lyrics.
He wrote the soundtrack for Marvel Comics movie Black Panther, which beat Titanic as the third highest grossing film of all time only trailing Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar.
Fans and industry heavyweights alike took to social media to congratulate the rapper.
