Police and child protection unit visit schools in Secunda and area

Ms Tracy Horak (state prosecutor) talks to learners from Highveld Ridge Primary School about their safety.

SECUNDA – Learners learnt about safety when members of the police, the child protection unit and Ms Tracy Horak, state prosecutor, visited several schools in May to celebrate Child Protection Month.

They visited Highveld Ridge Primary School on Wednesday, 23 May and Ms Horak told the learners everybody is made differently.

“God made each one of us special and nobody is allowed to touch you on your private places.

“Private means it belongs to you and nobody is allowed to look or touch there.

“If somebody tells you they want to touch or see your private parts or they tell you to touch theirs, you say no and run away and you tell someone what happened.

“You tell your mom or dad or the teacher or the police, tell somebody who you trust.

“If they do not listen, you keep on telling them or you tell somebody else.

“If somebody touches your private parts and tell you it is a secret, you must tell someone.

“People who hurt children look like everybody else.”

She warned the learners not to talk to strangers. The police will visit schools in the area for Child Protection Month.
