The closing time is drawing near for the One Rand One Can Project

SECUNDA – Highveld Christian College is the first school to hand in their donations towards the Echo/Ridge’s charity drive One Rand One Can.

The school comprises 85 learners and collected four boxes loaded with tinned food, sachets of soup and pasta.

They also raised R5 387 for the Highveld Ridge SPCA.

Ms Chantelle Bronkhorst, principal, said the classes challenged one another as to who could collect the most.

The winning class will be rewarded with a day off from school.

“We have not yet told them who has won, but the kids really put in some effort.

“There was even a cake sale. The winning class with a mere 14 learners collected R1 878.”

With the One Rand One Can project, Echo/Ridge is asking schools and businesses to urge their learners and personnel to each donate a tin of food for human consumption that will be donated to welfare organisations in need, and R1 that will be given to the SPCA to alleviate their financial crisis.

The school and the business that collected the most will each win a half-page advertisement in The Echo worth more than R10 000.

The closing date for the schools is 22 June when the school holidays begin.

We, therefore, call on our schools to contact us before Friday for collection. Businesses have until 30 June to collect the food and R1.

Contact Michelle Nankoomar, Carmen Fletcher or Arisja Misselhorn to arrange the collection of your donations.
