SECUNDA – A new Zello channel, Paws 911 assist, came into existence this weekend to deal with animal emergencies.
This initiative from beCAUSE Dogs and Co, together with Secunda 911 assist 24/7, is a platform where the community can report or find their lost pet, report an animal in distress or basic information of animals such as dog poisonings or vaccinations.
Five registered local animal welfare organisations will also be able to use this channel to promote their fundraising events.
Ms Chantel Vorster from beCAUSE Dogs and Co (cats of course), who is running the Secunda lost animals page on Facebook, said a representative of each organisation will be allowed as moderator on the channel.
“Only reports of lost, found injured or abused animals will be allowed. The channel can also be used as a way to help with adoptions and to ask for foster care.”
Mr Jaco Horn from Secunda 911 Assist 24/7 said users of his channel often post their lost animals and call for help when their pets go missing.
“We believe the Paws 911 Assist is a good initiative to deal with animal matters so that we can keep the emergency channel open for the reporting of emergencies only.
“We will be helping Chantel to manage the Paws 911 Assist channel where needed,” said Mr Horn.
Anyone can join the Paws 911 Assist channel, but listen carefully to the rules of the group.
This is not group where you can buy and sell animals or use to give away your dog’s puppies. It is also not there to trade in live stock.
The group is there to assist with real animal emergencies in Secunda and surrounding areas.
Any found, injured or abuse or adoption of animals and snakes can be announced on PAWS 911 Assist on Zello.
