Three killed in accident between Leandra and Standerton

Three people died in a car accident on 2 January.

LEANDRA – Three people died in a head-on collision on the R50 road between Leandra and Standerton on Monday, 2 January.

Both drivers died along with a five-year-old child.

The mother of the child sustained serious injuries and was taken to Evander Hospital.

Investigations are underway to determine what might have led to the crash.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Pat Ngomane, has called on motorists to remain alert at all times to avoid crashes that continue to claim many lives on the road.

The MEC has further appealed to road users to tolerate one another, avoid over speeding and dangerous overtaking or driving while they are tired.

“We should always ensure our vehicles are roadworthy and that those who drive are fit and proper to do so in order to avoid crashes.

“Our law enforcers will continue to deal harshly with those who go behind the steering wheel while they are intoxicated,” said Mr Ngomane.

He further advised those who will be travelling to plan their journeys well in advance so they are able to accommodate delays on the road which lead to increased levels of impatience that often leads to over speeding.
